HI, I’m trying to get JOSM running on my PC. Yes I know there a lot of WIKIs, but I didn’t see a step by step guide to install the pack of Java & JOSM, together. I taste a lack of programming knowledge on my side. I do have some questions. I downloaded Java but I donnno how to proceed, sounds familiar ? Is it necessary to register a Java account, to get it running ? It’s a US company so, I don’t like to open up my privacy. Where do I find JOSM jar ? Where should all the parts of the necessary programs and data parts be stored ?

Check out Chapter 3 of learnosm.org 'Getting Started With JOSM' and the nice video tutorial at the bottom of that page, which also shows installing java on a fresh windows machine.

It should not be necessary to register a java account, although there may be some unhelpful marketing nonsense trying to direct you to do this. Try to skip those prompts. ...But actually before you do that, try just downloading josm-test.jar and double-clicking this file. Many machines have java on them already.

There's more info on the osm wiki including specific notes for installing on windows.

You need to install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE), there is no need to register an account for downloading or installation. Afterwards you have to get JOSM, either by downloading josm-tested or by running the web-based version for which your browser requires a plugin. If you choose the first alternative, a double click on the josm-tested.jar should do, otherwise read the install notes.
