On my computer, Ctrl-+ 'zooms' the display, increasing the legibility of any lettering. 1
This is of course a feature of the browser you use, but most modern browsers support Ctrl-+ (at least Firefox, Internet Explorer and Chrome do).

What I was trying to say by linking to Andy Allan's answer was that OpenStreetMap is really all about the data. Sure, there is a map on the main page, but it's just one example of what you can do with the data. If you want to create a map with the same data but with larger fonts used for text, you can. The answer to the other question that you linked to explains a bit about it, although it might take a little while to get your head around the If you really think that what the map on the main page does right now is wrong, then you can add an enhancement request here. Unfortunately, there can be conflicting requests (e.g. "make the text bigger", "show more things", "make it cleaner and easier to read") so not everything is possible. Finally, someone may already have created the map (with larger text labels) that you're looking for. There's a wiki page here which might have some useful links on it, and a mailing list here.
