Transferring maps with Garmin GPS

0

I just purchased the Garmin nuvi 1490 with 2012 lifetime US maps and wanted to update my Garmin 350 with 2010 one time update maps. Is it possible to copy a map file on my computer to the Garmin 350 and if so how?

If the Garmin 350 uses the Garmin .img files you can create these with mkgmap from OpenStreetMap data. If you download an area of data, such as from Geofabrik downloads, mkgmap can use it to create the .img files for your Garmin. If the area is too big for a single .img file you can use splitter and then mkgmap to break the map data into chunks. The style of the Garmin map can be changed too.

You will probably find it easier to use some pre-built maps so have a look at this in the Wiki https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Garmin#Pre-made_maps
and https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin you will have to see if your device can take a memory card or as enough built-in memory space. Those looking for a GB map I can recommend these http://talkytoaster.info/ukmaps.htm
