We are doing a project on disaster mapping where we have decided to select a certain area of Kathmandu and develop web and android app from which user can contribute map data like danger zones, water supplies, open spaces etc.By doing this we would like to study the feasibility of such application in our context. We would like to use osm map data in order to do this. What would best way to go about it?

Thank you for your suggestions.

I would start by writing to HOT mailing list (Humanitarian OSM Team) and ask whether they already have a app that suits your needs.

And they probably can answer many other questions you are qurrently facing.

Thank you for the answer. For any project that requires adding data back to OSM i would suggest taking a look at OSM API http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/API .
