In my area there are many POIs which are shown as "Unnamed". As a first contribution I thought I might attach the correct names to all these POIs. Could someone please identify the preferred way to do this? Thank you.

My suggestion would be the following:

  1. Log into your account on OpenStreetMap.org, click on your user name (top right) and go to the "My Settings" page.
  2. Scroll down and change the "Preferred Editor" to "potlatch2". This is the new, enhanced and much easier to use version of our online editing tool
  3. Now go back to the main page, and find the area you want to improve. When the map is in the right place, click "Edit"
  4. Wait for the editor to show up, and load all the information in your area
  5. Click on a POI that you want to name. On the left-hand panel, find the name field and enter the name
  6. When you're happy with your changes, press Save

That's it! Changes will show up on the map after a few minutes. There are many other options for making edits to the map, but this is probably the easiest way to get started.

As a word of caution: potlatch2 is still very new and might still contain a few bugs. So if it absolutely doesn't work for you don't despair but ask an experienced mapper if you are doing something wrong or if you just hit a bug.
