how do I cut lines from maps that I have downloaded from OSM to JOSM....how can I erase lines that I do not need for mine projects......and thanxs for the help so far

Osmosis seems to be the most efficient way to do this. There seems to be a plugin that will allow you to define and save polygon filters from JOSM.

Have a look at the JOSM guide, "Basic editing" documentation.
Of course, you can delete whatever you like for your needs locally on your machine but you shouldn't upload your changes back into the database.
