How should I tag a snowmobile trail?

1

In the northeastern United States there are MANY trails on which "wheeled vehicles" (Cars, ATVs, Dirt Bikes, etc...) are prohibited, but Snowmobiles are allowed (encouraged even). These trails are used by hikers, runners, hunters, cyclists, and equestrians as well, so they are valuable to have recorded and tagged.

Is it possible to add a "Snowmobile" or "tracked vehicle" and "ATV" tags to the map?

You should add the main tag : "highway=path" or "highway=track" depending how large it is.

Do you mean that I should add the key "Snowmobile" and the value "yes" in the advanced view? That is an awful lot of work... There are 6,800 miles of snowmobile trails in New Hampshire alone.

Is there a way to select it in the simple view so that it doesn't have to be typed every time?

Yes - actually "snowmobile" rather than "Snowmobile". You can select more than one track at once when adding the new key, though, so it's not as bad as it sounds.

Also, there are other editors available - if you can find a way of selecting the ways that you want to add "snowmobile=yes" to, then JOSM might be worth looking at.

OH WOW!!! I had no idea that you could do a multiple select. THANK YOU!!! SomeoneElse, You are awesome today.

HOW TO: 1. select first road (object etc...) 2. Hold down control key and select 2nd (3rd, 4th, etc...) road.
