I have a problem with tagging a shop with an icon and name. In editor view (Potlatch 2) the icon without shop name is visible but not in OSM map view. I have added all the details to this object like name, address, web etc. Did I miss a trick to get the icon with shop name ? Feedback would be very much appreciated - Thanks asked 12 Jul '12, 09:48 binzel |
If the changes have been made within about the last 16 hours, I think there is an issue with database replication which will have prevented the OSM map view from updating. Generally though, Potlatch 2 might not render everything the same as the OSM map view. I think from your changesets you are looking at a shop=jewelry icon? If so these are amongst the items that aren't rendered in the default map view like this one I mapped in 2009. answered 12 Jul '12, 10:01 EdLoach ♦ 1
EdLoach, thanks - you are right I was trying to display the jewelry icon. If this is not being rendered by OSM what would be your proposal as neither department- nor convenient store is a good fit. I haven't found a generic store icon ?! // Thanks :)

Use the tag/icon that fits best. We cannot render every possible map feature.

There are plenty of other maps out there - what appears on OSM's "standard" map is just an example of the sorts of things that you could do with the data. Someone, somewhere, I'm sure, has created a web map that renders all sorts of different types of shops.

If your edit is less than 24 hours old, wait a bit longer; you cannot rely on the map always being current. answered 12 Jul '12, 09:57 Frederik Ramm ♦ |
