Hye,

There is many civil engineering around my home and some roads are closed.

I just want to mark the road out of service and not delete the road from the map.

Thanks for help.

The tag hightway=construction is the solution in this case. The civil engineering is for a long time, at least one year.

you can use the following ways: add construction=yes

or change to highway=construction

or add some appropriate access-tags (e.g. vehicle=no foot=yes if the road is closed for vehicles but pedestrians can still use it).

Don't forget to change the tags accordingly, once the construction is finished.

How long are the roads closed for reconstruction? If it is only for a short time (e.g. a couple of days up to some weeks) and everything will be like before afterwards, imho don't tag the construction. If only the surface or sewer pipes are renewed during a long weekend, this does not justify tagging and re-tagging.

Reason: people might download data for offline-navigation in the meantime and then they are stuck with supposedly closed roads for a long time after the construction is finished. But there is an ongoing discussion about this topic - 2 lawyers have 3 different opinions :D

+1 for time-concious tagging.

Change the tag from "highway=VALUE" to "highway=construction" and add a tag "construction=VALUE".

This gives even quite a nice rendering: A 40 under reconstruction
