In this section of the map, as far as I can see, there are no tourism=camp-site tags. Yet if I view that section in the android OsmAnd app, there are three listed. Similarly, on this overlay, created using that tag, there are three sites. What am I missing? Thanks.

I can see three tourism=camp-site tourism=caravan_site (thanks for the hint, SomeoneElse) next to Cliff Road on the right side of my screen. They are a little bit hard to see in Potlatch with the Bing imagery enabled. Are you talking about these camp sites or some other?

Do you mean "tourism=caravan_site" or "tourism=camp_site"? I'm guessing the former, since that's what the overlay shows, and like scai, I can see three as well.

Note those caravan sites are mapped as areas, not nodes. This means that Potlatch 2 (the online editor) does not show them with a symbol. Instead they are shown as a shaded area. This area is a fairly pale colour, so may not be very obvious, depending on what background you are using.

Where possible, it is usually best to map things as an area instead of just a node. As it shows how large the caravan site is, and the area it covers. Note that features should not be mapped as a node and an area, as it would suggest there are two caravan sites there (see One feature, one OSM element).

And any OSM based maps can still show an icon for caravan sites, whether they are mapped as a node or an area.

Yes, it's as Vclaw says. The site is an area, not a point. I was expecting to see an icon. When I click on the area, it highlights it and brings up the appropriate panel, like this. Is there an easy way for me to search for this tag within OSM, either in edit mode, or via the main page? Question for scai: which interface were you using to see the tourism=caravan_site tags listed on the right of your screen? Thanks

Keith: I just used Potlatch. However as Vclaw already said there wasn't any icon, just the area outline.

keith_uk: if you click the down arrow next to edit and select Browse Map data, you will see red areas over the areas you are looking at, and can click on those to see the tags. You'll also note a tourism=chalet area nearby. As you've found, you can also click on the areas while editing to see the properties.
