My question is how to see an overlapping way using the Potlatch2?

I'm guessing that you mean you do you select a way in Potlatch 2 when it shares the same nodes as some other layer. If that's the case, the answer is click on one of the nodes and then to press "/". That will alternatively select the ways that share that node.

The Potlatch shortcuts page actually says "/ - cycle through overlapping ways (at selected node, or where the way was clicked) ( # - on german keyboards, * - on Scandinavian keyboards)". You might have to experiment a bit...
