I try to map an historic (3500 BC) embankment in our village. http://www.bloggen.be/huldenberg/archief.php?ID=74 (photo is from distance, text is dutch) It is an earth wall of 140m by 30m and 4 up to 6m height. A kind of dyke, but there is no water as 70m below the hill. I made up an area with embankment, but rendering in Osmarender is a road in a square with slopes at inner and outer sides. http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/83210315 What I want is an area with only slopes at the outside. How do I do that? Should I use one road and do something with width? |

OSM try to map real existing world today. Your embankment is realy an embankment today ? You can use historic:man_made=embankment. The ele tag is for height above sea level, use height. Your place is an archaeological site as is already tagged. On the wiki page you can show this tag is for way, not area. An other important thing, tag object to describ like there are, not like they are rendererd on some map. 1
A historic embankment is a real existing feature today. The embankment tag won't display so creating eg a hill fort which in real life shows a series of rings and ditches is problematic.

There are numerous examples of historic earthworks mapped on OSM using the man_made=embankment tag: for instance Maiden Castle in Dorset, and Kazemat aan de Diefdijk near Utrecht. Apologies to Cartinus whose comment I inadvertently deleted in trying to convert to an answer!
