Harper Way in Fareham (http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=50.85191&lon=-1.17911&zoom=18&layers=M) is effectively a taxi rank and delivery access road, with a footpath and cycle track running alongside it. It is currently shown as a minor road with a 'cycleway = track' tag. I would like to show that it has restricted one-way access for motor vehicles, but two-way access for bicycles. Would it be better to map the road and the footpath / cycle track as separate ways?

If the cycle track is physically separated from the road, then it is probably best to map the path as a separate way.

As this shows where the path is in relation to the road, ie what side of the road, and how far away it is. Plus you can show where the path is connected to the road. And you can add tags for the path details eg surface, width, access, oneway.

A track that is two-way whereas the road is one way is tagged with cycleway=opposite_track

Looks like a separated track to me, I'd map it as a separate way as a segregated cycleway (since it has a pedestrian sidewalk).

Based on Google Street View, I just have to wonder a few things:

  1. Where do they expect bicycles to go at the south end of the track, which seems to terminate into an oncoming traffic lane?
  2. What kind of idiot traffic designer puts a signpost inside an active lane? The No Entry sign for the road appears to be in the northbound lane of the cycletrack.
  3. The blindman's pavers indicating the start of the crosswalk are located in the southbound cycle lane, rather than in the pedestrian space...it's like the traffic engineer actively hates blind pedestrians and cyclists alike.
