Is it possible to create addition nodes within an existing way? For example, if a existing curved road is drawn with three straight lines, can extra nodes be added to help smooth the curve.

Currently i'm breaking the line, deleting it, and then redrawing.

If you use the online editor (Potlatch 2):

Shift-click at the point where you want to insert the node.

If you use JOSM, you need to zoom enough to see small cross in the middle of each segment. You can drag each small cross for creating a new node.
