Hey First time user posting a total newbie question. I apologize in advance. I work for an organisation that helps build user-driven communities in abandoned industrial buildings. We would very much like to map the abandoned buildings we encounter in our work. We would really like to use and support OpenStreetMap. I can seem to figure out whether it is possible to make your own "my places" map (like you can in google maps) where we can add pictures and descriptions of the abandoned buildings. Open Mapquest does. It uses OpenStreetMap data. answered 09 Mar '12, 22:54 Baloo Uriza 1
If the Paul's answer is OK for you, you can accept it :-) It will close your question. Thanks

I think the Tag:landuse=brownfield would match what you describe as abandoned industrial buildings. answered 11 Mar '12, 10:13 gerdami |
If data are present in OSM database with the tag given by @gerdami, you can have a map of them here. I'm also working on an application like mymaps. Current prototype is here (in french). answered 27 Aug '12, 09:56 NicolasDumoulin That's a really useful viewer - lots of people have asked something along the lines of "I've mapped X but it doesn't appear on the map".

uMap is an open source package that lets you quickly create maps with OpenStreetMap layers and embed them in your site. You can add nodes, lines, and polygons. It's quite customizable, and can export to GeoJSON. You can install it on your web server or use one of the online instances, such as fluv.io. Here's an example of a custom map - potential locations for Blueseed platforms (cruise ships converted to entrepreneurial hacker spaces, situated near cities with a decent population size). answered 15 Jul '13, 11:04 dandv aseerel4c26 ♦ |
