Why not ask your question on the new OpenStreetMap Community Forum?

I see both should be possible. But what is preffered? Maybe extra nodes are better because I can point them more precisely and there can be multiple node-based amenities in one building for example...

You should really check the documentation of each tag on the wiki, but the ideal is that all tags that can be mapped as an area is mapped as an area. In many cases the detail level of a survey doesn't allow for this, in those cases map the node only, or if you have more detailed data than what is already entered, update the tags so that we get the best details possible on our map.

This is good general advice, but there are also some arguments against using tagged area, especially with large sites. Please see http://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/14078/tagging-large-touristic-sites?
