Why not ask your question on the new OpenStreetMap Community Forum?

Just started to use this program on my iPhone 4 and when I try to put a poi that is up the street from me it doesn't show it it keeps saying something that is over a thousand miles away.

Please elaborate on what you mean by "this program".

To expand a little bit on what Frederik has said, it sounds like you've installed something on your iPhone 4 that uses OpenStreetMap data. There is no "official" OSM app for iPhone4 or any other platform (there's not even an "official" map - what you see on openstreetmap.org are just examples among many others).

Unless you tell us what program you downloaded from where we won't be able to help - and even when we do know what it is the advice might be "contact the program's author".
