I have just discovered the "relations" feature which allowed me to fix an untagged island in a loch. Later I found what I thought were some untagged polygons. However, they seem to be related, as a number get selected when I click on one. Maybe they should they be woods? Would it be best to leave it?

Maybe someone changed them since you asked this question, but I only see a lake and two adjacent natural=wood polygons.

I do not see any relation in there, although a multi-polygon would not be bad.

Perhaps what's being referred to is http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/1083007/history ? That's not too far away.
