Can OSM update its satellite images for Uganda?

3

Hello, I would like to edit the map for my local area in Kampala Uganda and also in the Bwindi National Park. Home of the Mountain gorillas, however the Images are very old, is it possible to update the images for Uganda. I have noticed that on http://www.africantourismportal.com/ the images are quite new, about 4 months old. rgds

OpenStreetMap itself doesn't provide any aerial imagery. It only links to imagery provided by third parties who have granted us permission to trace those images for mapping. As such "we" can't update anything, nor provide new images without a donation from somewhere else.

The images you can see are probably from Yahoo!, who confirmed we were allowed to trace its aerial imagery some time ago. The imagery on the African Tourism Portal is actually provided by Google, which in turn sources it from other providers. Google hasn't given the same permission to us, and as such we're not allowed to create maps from the imagery.

YOU can update the aerial image, by organizing the permit that the images can be used by OSM. There will be people to help you with the technical details as soon as the license for the images is OK.
